Concrete set and level

We were really impressed with the levelness of the floor
My room really clear and tidy :)

A sample tile sits flush with the super level surface.

 Maggie's room is a little cluttered :)

Below is the wall of engineering bricks we built to support the staircase. Originally it was resting on ash and slag. The wall was built on a extra wide DPM on a 12 inch deep footing of concrete. Now encapsulated in 114mm of concrete.

Laser Leveling and concrete membrane

A second DPM goes down on top of the 100mm insulation extensively to hold the Free flowing self leveling self compacting concrete in place
Laser level used to determin the average depth of concrete ,110mm in this case.

Almost ready for 6 cubic meters of concrete ...gulp !

Insulation spacer tucked behind the first DPM.

Damp proof membrane and insulation.

We used the thickest grade DPM we could buy and taped the joints with special tape.

100mm jablite insulation. Taped joints and taped to the DPM at the sides to prevent the concrete getting under the insulation, If it did the sheets of jablite would start to float :-/

Tricky joints where we built the wall to bear the staircase. The short wall has a footing of 12 inches of limestone and 6 inches of concrete. the wall is built on extra wide DPM so we could tape the floor DPM to it.

Filling in the void.(Pictures in no particular order)

We used broken bricks, crushed stone, and limestone compacted every 4 inches as we filled

Crushed stone.
Plate compactor.

29 tonnes of hardcore plus 2 tonnes of soft sand to protect the DPM from puncture.
Blinding with soft sand.
